Who we are
South Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) is one of
21 CRCs in England and Wales. We cover the areas of Sheffield,
Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley and aim to maintain a reputation
for delivering an excellent service to offenders, victims and
stakeholders. As South Yorkshire CRC we manage the punishment and
rehabilitation of approximately over 4000 low and medium risk
offenders placed on community orders and those following release
from custodial sentences. Our Head Office is located in Sheffield
city centre. We service the four major conurbations of South
Yorkshire through our Local Delivery Units (LDU) situated in
Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster.
Our skilled, dedicated and experienced workforce work directly
with offenders to tackle the causes of their offending behaviour,
enabling them to turn their lives around and, where possible,
rehabilitate them back into the community. We also work with
offenders to ensure they understand the impact of their behaviour
on victims of crime. There is county wide provision of Community
Payback (Unpaid Work) and a Group Programmes Unit. We work closely
with local partners, including the Police and Crime Commissioner,
through local community safety partnerships.
On 1 February 2015 the ownership of the South Yorkshire
Community Rehabilitation Company Ltd transferred to Sodexo as part
of the Government's Transforming Rehabilitation (TR) programme.
Transforming Rehabilitation is a programme of reform that
changes the way service users are managed in the community. It
builds on historic good practice while providing greater scope for
innovative approaches to reducing reoffending.
Following a national competition and share sale, Sodexo, in
partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro, took ownership of
six Community Rehabilitation Companies in England. South Yorkshire
Community Rehabilitation is one of those six.
With more than two decades delivering justice services across
the UK and a portfolio of five prisons, Sodexo brings a wealth of
experience in managing and reducing reoffending. Nacro's position
as the country's leading crime reduction charity also brings a
strong heritage of helping offenders to turn their lives
While ownership of the six Community Rehabilitation Companies
has transferred to Sodexo, day-to-day leadership of each Company
remains with the local Chief Executive Officer.
Under Transforming Rehabilitation the CRCs continue to use their
expertise to build on their strong foundations of protecting the
public and reducing reoffending. They are now also responsible for
supervising service users on release from prison sentences of less
than 12 months. These individuals were not previously subject to
Success in reducing reoffending will be rewarded by the
Government on a payment by results basis.
This new direction presents an exciting opportunity to combine
the skills, expertise and commitment of colleagues from across
Community Rehabilitation Companies, Sodexo and Nacro to manage
risk, deliver safer communities and change lives. We look forward
to the future.
