Community Payback Leads to Employment

18 June 2014

Two offenders who have completed their Unpaid Work hours have been offered seasonal paid employment with The Green Co in Sheffield.

The Green Co (formally SOVA) are a social enterprise company firmly rooted in values that support education and employment opportunities for those in need.

In Partnership with Sheffield City Council and Veolia environmental services, they are responsible for providing waste recycling services across the five Household Waste Recycling Centres of Sheffield.

The two offenders, completing Unpaid Work as part of their community sentence, showed their ability to work hard and become part of the team. On completion of their hours they were offered paid work over the summer.

Employment is a key factor in reducing reoffending, it reduces the likelihood of reoffending by up to 50%. Individuals that are diverted away form the criminal justice system and into emploment can then become positive contributors to their local communities.
